PLUS supports TNG RFID and you don’t have to use the eWallet

Beginning next year, PLUS Malaysia will be rolling out RFID on the North-South expressway. Today, both CIMB Group and PLUS Malaysia have jointly announced a new collaboration that will offer highway users multiple cashless payment options via TNG’s RFID.

Unlike the current TNG RFID that is linked only to Touch ‘n Go’s eWallet, CIMB and TNG will roll out an open payment facility where users can also choose to link the RFID tag to a total of four cashless payment options. Apart from TNG eWallet, users will also be able to link the tag to their bank accounts, credit cards and debit cards.

Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, Group Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Group said “We’re extremely pleased to have been able to work with PLUS to lead this landmark initiative. The democratisation in toll payments is something we fully champion and the CIMB teams, together with the teams at our subsidiary TNG, are committed to collaborating with PLUS and, in time, other highway concessionaires to make open payments an accessible reality for all Malaysians.” Commenting on the collaboration, Datuk Azman Ismail, the Managing Director of Plus said “RFID transactions will be real-time, as our highway customers will receive an immediate notification of their balance and CIMB—TNG have given their commitment to this high standard of service delivery.”

TNG RFID will be available at 10 open-system toll plazas on PLUS expressway beginning 1st January 2020 and it will be supported at all 83 closed-system toll plazas on 1st April 2020. Toll fees on the open-toll system are charged when you pass through a specific section of the highway and this includes most Klang Valley highways such as LDP, Kesas and Sprint. For closed-toll system, the fee is charged based on where you enter and exit the highway, and this covers most of the North-South Expressway and Central Link (ELITE).
