Xiaomi Mi Note 10: World’s first penta-camera smartphone with 108MP main camera

The Xiaomi CC9 Pro is launching next week and this appears to be a serious contender when it comes to smartphone photography. For the global market, it appears that Xiaomi will be releasing the device as the Mi Note 10 and it will be their first penta-camera smartphone to feature a high-resolution 108MP main camera.

The Mi Note 10 teaser as a surprise as Lei Jun had previously shared that there won’t be any new Mi Note and Mi Max devices this year as the company focuses on its new CC series. Since his message was aimed at the Chinese community, he isn’t entirely wrong since the CC9 series is released globally under a different name. What’s even more interesting is that Xiaomi has leapfrogged from the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 to 10, and this is seen as a marketing move to appear “on par” with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 hardware specs aren’t revealed yet but it is likely to share a lot of similarities with the CC9 Pro that’s launching on 5th November. Ahead of its announcement, Xiaomi has shared more details of its penta-camera setup via Weibo.

At the very top is the telephoto camera that can do 5X optical zoom, 10X hybrid zoom and up to 50X zoom in digital mode. It doesn’t look like a periscope camera but it has very similar capabilities as the Huawei P30 Pro and the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom. The second shooter in the array is a 12MP portrait camera that has larger 1.4-micron pixels.

Next is the main 108MP camera that uses Samsung’s ISOCELL sensor. It has an aperture of f/1.7 and the sensor is quite large at 1/1.33″. By default, each pixel is 0.8-micron and it can combine four nearby pixels to create a brighter 27MP image in low light situations. As a comparison, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro has a 1/1.7″ sensor for its 40MP main camera and a 1/1.54″ sensor for its 40MP ultra-wide camera.

The fourth camera is a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera that has a 117-degree field of view, while the last camera is a macro shooter that can capture as low as 1.5cm.

In terms of specs, the CC9 Pro is speculated to feature a 6.47″ Full HD+ AMOLED display and from the image above, it looks like a dual-curved unit. Under the hood, it will run on a Snapdragon 730G processor which is the most powerful mid-range processor at the moment. Since this is a “Note”, the device is expected to come with a huge 5,170mAh battery and it weighs 208g.

So far there’s no mention of its global release but the Mi Note 10 has already passed certification in Thailand and Singapore. Are you looking forward to the Mi Note 10? Let us know in the comments below.
