Grab riders take note! Grab will be disabling cash payments for GrabCar rides between 2am to 6am from mid-October onwards. According to the e-hailing provider, this is implemented in the interest of improving safety.
According to its notice that was sent by email, riders will be required to pay using GrabPay wallet which can be linked to your preferred credit or debit card. Alternatively, you can top up credits via online banking or payment card.
The move is seen as a step to reduce the risk for Grab driver-partners. This year there have been a number of cases where Grab drivers were robbed in the wee hours. In May, a Grab driver in Sabah was murdered in a robbery.
Apart from improving safety, going cashless will also improve efficiency as the passengers and Grabcar drivers won’t need to fumble with small change. This can help save time during dropoffs.
