Motorola RAZR with foldable screen expected to launch next month after years of anticipation

The iconic Motorola RAZR flip-phone could finally make a comeback after years of anticipation. Motorola has been dropping hints since 3 years ago and it looks like they are finally launching the device next month at Los Angeles on 13 November.

A couple of US media have received the official invite and it shows what appears to be a foldable device that has a hinge in the middle. The invite mentions “highly anticipated unveiling of a reinvented icon” and “you’re going to flip”.

With the recent development of flexible displays, the reborn Motorola RAZR is expected to be a flip-phone with a full screen on the inside while the other cover gets a smaller display for notification. You could probably think of it as a compact version of the Samsung Galaxy Fold. What’s interesting is that the device appears to be able to close fully flat and it looks sleeker than the Galaxy Fold which has a noticeable thigh gap.

Motorola RAZR specs

According to early speculations, the new RAZR for 2019 will get a long 6.2″ display that has a 22:9 aspect ratio. There will be a notch at the top to house an earpiece and selfie camera while the bottom will still get a thick bump which is similar to the old RAZR V3.

In terms of specs, it is rumoured to run on a Snapdragon 710 processor with 4GB or 6GB of RAM. It was said that the battery is quite small at 2,730mAh but it will support Motorola’s 27W Turbo Power fast charging. It was also rumoured to carry a price tag of US$1,500 which is about RM6,729.

Hopefully, Motorola will improve on the specs since it carries a premium price tag. As a comparison, the larger Galaxy Fold is priced at RM8,388 and it comes with a Snapdragon 855 processor with 512GB of storage.
