Oppo K5: Oppo’s first 64MP smartphone with 30W VOOC flash charge 4.0

Apart from the Reno Ace, Oppo has also introduced its new K5 smartphone. This is Oppo’s first quad-camera smartphone with a 64MP main shooter and it’s powered by a powerful Snapdragon 730G processor.

Upfront, it comes with a 6.4″ AMOLED display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution. For a cleaner exterior design, it also features an in-display fingerprint sensor. If you don’t like pop-up camera modules, the Oppo K5 comes with a tiny notch that houses a 32MP f/2.0 selfie shooter.

Over at the rear, the device features a 64MP f/1.8 main camera that uses Samsung’s GW1 sensor and it also gets an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera. Also included are two 2MP cameras for portrait effects.

On paper, the K5 is quite a competent device and it can be configured with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. The device also gets a frame boost and touch boost optimisation for a better gaming experience.

Powering the device is a 4,000mAh battery and it supports Oppo’s new VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 technology that uses USB-C. The 30W power brick can push 67% charge in 30 minutes and a 100% charge in 73 minutes. According to Oppo, it is 12% faster than the current 20W VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 charger. Out of the box, it runs on Android 9 Pie with ColorOS 6.1.

Below is the official Oppo K5 pricing in China:

6GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 1,899 (about RM1,124)
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 2,099 (about RM1,242)
8GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 2,499 (about RM1,479)

So far there’s no word of its global availability but the pricing is pretty close to Xiaomi’s Redmi K20 / Mi 9T series. In China, the Redmi K20 with a Snapdragon 730 processor is priced from CNY 1,799 for 6GB RAM + 128GB storage.
