TCL is a major TV manufacturer in China but they have been doing smartphones as well such as BlackBerry and Alcatel. Now they are bringing its TV display expertise onto a mobile device and the result of that is the TCL Plex. The new mid-range smartphone is now available in Malaysia and it promises to offer cinematic mobile experiences with its NXTVISION display technology.
Upfront, it gets a 6.53″ LCD Dotch display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution on an LCD panel. The device boasts a dedicated display engine that ensures colour accuracy with radiant images using a 6-axis colour enhancement feature. It offers SDR to HDR real-time conversion to provide a HDR-like video enhancement. With HDR, you should be able to enjoy greater contrast, amplified colour, brighter highlights and darker shadows for your favourite videos.
For more comfortable viewing and to protect your eyes, it also gets adaptive tone, reading mode and eye comfort mode. For a less instructive viewing experience, there’s no notch but it does have a punch-hole in the top left corner that houses a 24MP selfie camera.
Under the hood, it runs on a capable Snapdragon 675 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. For imaging, the rear gets a triple-camera setup with two LED flash. There’s also a striking band that runs across the back which reminds us of the Huawei Mate 10 series.
It features a 48MP f/1.8 main camera that uses Sony IMX586 sensor and a 16MP f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle shooter. The third camera is a dedicated low-light camera for videos. Although it has a lower 2MP resolution, the 3rd sensor boasts large 2.9-micron pixels for brighter videos in dark environments.
Another interesting feature is its ability to pair up to four Bluetooth headphones simultaneously for multi-streaming audio sharing. Powering the Plex is a 3,820mAh battery that supports Qualcomm QuickCharge via USB-C.
The TCL Plex is officially priced at RM1,199 and it’s available in two colours – Obsidian Black and Opal White. If you’re interested, the Plex is now on sale on Shopee and they are bundling a pair of MTRO wireless on-ear headphones worth RM199 for free.
