Google is set to launch the Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, and a host of other devices at the “Made by Google” event that will happen on the 15th of October 2019. It’s not explicitly stated by Google that the Pixel will be launched at the event, but it’s a fairly safe assumption based on previous launches, while Google says: “Come see a few new things Made by Google.”
Of course, the Pixel 4 series has had several features confirmed, already. And no, we’re not talking about leaks, or unofficial information. In a slightly unorthodox method of ramping up the hype for their latest Pixel smartphone, Google has already confirmed a few details, including the look and name of the phone.
They’ve also confirmed that the Pixel 4 series will feature an advanced form of Face Unlock, along with implementation of Project Soli technology that will allow for users to use hand gestures to control the phone.
The Face Unlock feature will unlock the device in a single motion. However, unlike the iPhone X’s FaceID feature, there’s no additional swipe up step required and Google claims that you can unlock using your face in any direction, even upside down. Interestingly, this feature could possibly be used to authenticate payments as well as applications.
Google is also expected to reveal some new products, including a refreshed Pixelbook laptop, while there could also be new Google Home speakers launched as well. But for the Pixel 4, with many details already revealed ahead of time, we also expect the phones to come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 SoC, along with a multiple rear-camera setup—for once.
