Huawei posts enticing Tweet about Mate 30 launch, hints at new camera setup

The Huawei Mate 30 series is set to launch on the 19th of September, and Huawei has just posted an enticing teaser on their Twitter account. The launch event will be held in Munich, Germany, with Huawei earlier saying:

“We’re going full circle in Munich on 19.09.2019”

In their latest Tweet, Huawei says that it’s “time to see things differently”, along with an emoji of a pair of eyes. We’re guessing that this could be alluding to a new camera setup on the Mate 30 pro, with the accompanying slow-mo video clip displaying the words, “See time differently”.

To recap what we know so far: notable leakster, Ice Universe earlier hinted that Huawei’s upcoming flagship could come with a 40MP + 40MP + 8MP + ToF setup at the rear, while another leakster (@RODENT950) indicated that the primary 40MP sensor could come with a Cine lens.

This Cine lens could be a large part of what Huawei is getting at in the Tweet, with the feature likely to offer a more natural cinematic tone for video recording on the Mate 30 Pro. It’s also safe to assume that Huawei could be touting a new super slow-mo feature, with the P30 Pro able to shoot slow-motion videos in 4x (120 fps), 8x (240 fps), and 32x (960 fps). However, the P30 Pro only records slow-mo videos at 720p, other than the videos shot in 120 fps.

We’re also expecting the Mate 30 Pro to come with larger camera sensors, with a 40MP 1/1.5″ main sensor with an aperture of f/1.4 to f/1.6. The secondary 40MP shooter is also expected to sport a familiar 1/1.7″ sensor for the ultra-wide-angle shooter with a field of view of 120-degrees. As for the zoom lens, it is said to be an 8MP camera with 5X zoom (likely optical), something like the P30 Pro.

Of course, the Mate 30 Pro—which will be powered by the Kirin 990—is also the subject of some controversy. Google has said that the Mate 30 series cannot be launched with license Google apps and services, which certainly puts a spanner in the works for Huawei.

Huawei, of course, has continued to develop its Plan B: Harmony OS, while remaining tight-lipped on the operating system that the Mate 30 Pro will be built on. For the time being, however, it remains to be seen how the Mate 30 Pro launch will play out.
