Everything you need to know about Apple’s iPhone 11 event summed up in a two-minute video

This morning, Apple just concluded what could very well be one of its most significant keynote events ever and its a doozy. Three brand new iPhones, a new Apple Watch, a new iPad and as the cherry on top of the proverbial Apple cake, the company officially kicked off its services line up with the public release of Apple Arcade and Apple TV+.

There’s a lot to take in and the full keynote is over one hour and forty minutes long. That might be too much for a lot of people. It’s a good thing then that Apple has compressed all the interesting points of the keynote in this punchy two-minute video.

Take a look to catch everything you need to know what Apple released together with the iPhone 11 today.

iPhone 11

The new iPhones are cheaper than the models they replace and feature more significant upgrades than previous versions. The main highlight is, of course, the triple camera 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro (and the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max). For the first time ever, the iPhone gets an ultra-wide-angle camera which I feel is much more practical and useful in day-to-day situations than a telephoto lens.

Despite being upgraded in every aspect, the latest iPhone will come to Malaysia faster than previous other versions and it will be sold cheaper than the models that it will be replacing.

As a comparison:

The base model iPhone 11 with 64GB of storage will sell for RM3,399 when it becomes available in Malaysia from September 27th. The iPhone XR, which the iPhone 11 replaces, with 64GB sold for RM3,599 at launch.

The iPhone 11 Pro with 64GB for storage will sell for RM4,899 on when it goes on sale in Malaysia. Last year, the model the iPhone 11 replaces, the iPhone XS sold for RM4,999 when it was launched last year.

iPad

The iPad, the original tablet that created a whole new niche in personal computing over seven years ago is now in its seventh iteration. The latest version departs from the familiar 9.7-inch form factor and is now 10.2-inch but uses the older A10 processor compared to the current A12 chip in the iPad Air and iPad mini, and the A12X in the iPad Pro.

On the plus side, the iPad is compatible with the Apple Pencil (first gen) and the various keyboards that work with the other iPads. In terms of pricing, the new iPad will be the cheapest iPad in the current lineup. Starting at RM1,499 for the 32GB WiFi model, that’s RM250 cheaper than the cheapest current-generation iPad you can right now, the iPad Mini.

Apple Watch Series 5

Along with the iPhone 11 and the new iPad, Apple also showed off their new watch. The Apple Watch Series 5 features a slightly tweaked design and while the display remains the same, utilising an AMOLED panel, it now features a new tech that promises to conserve battery life significantly. So much so that the new Watch has an always-on display.

Aside from that, the Apple Watch Series 5 carries the same 44mm and 40mm case size as the Apple Watch Series 4 as well as many of its features, including ECG, fall and detection. The Series 4 has been discontinued to make way for the Series 5. Interestingly, however, the Series 3 remains in the Apple Watch lineup as a cheaper option.

Apple Arcade

At the event, Apple also announced that its game subscription service, Apple Arcade will be available to the public from September 19th. You get a free one month trial and after that, the service costs RM19.90 for a family plan with six users. The service is compatible only for iOS 13 and iPad OS, TV OS 13 and Mac OS Catalina.
