Sony accidentally reveals the Xperia 5, OLED HDR screen confirmed

Sony is scheduled to announce their latest Xperia smartphone today at IFA 2019. Ahead of its event, the Japanese smartphone maker had accidentally revealed its new compact smartphone in what appears to be a test live stream and we can now confirm that it’s going to be called the Sony Xperia 5.

Despite being a smaller device, the screencap reveals that the Xperia 5 will come with a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio display that uses an OLED panel with HDR support. This matches the details there were revealed by serial leakster Roland Quandt. The device also comes with Dolby Atmos support and we reckon that it could also feature stereo speakers.

In terms of specs, the new device is expected to run on a Snapdragon 855 processor and it will also feature a similar triple-camera setup as the Xperia 1. It’s quite odd that Sony has decided to skip the Xperia 2, 3 4 and they are jumping straight to 5 for what essentially is a smaller version of the Xperia 1. Unless of course, the model name is just a temporary placeholder for its rehearsal which we think it is very unlikely.

The Sony Xperia IFA 2019 event is taking place this evening at 8pm Malaysian time.
