Oppo has joined the quad-camera bandwagon with the introduction of its new Reno 2 series in India. They announced not just one but a total of three models with each being powered by different processors.
Oppo Reno 2
Among the three, the Reno 2 is the highest spec device and it looks similar to the first-gen Reno series. It has a 6.5″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that has an in-display fingerprint sensor. It runs on an upper-midrange Snapdragon 730G processor with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage.
Like the current Reno, it has a wedged-shaped pop-up selfie module that houses a 16MP front camera. At the rear, it features a familiar 48MP f/1.7 SONY IMX586 camera with OIS and a 13MP f/2.4 telephoto camera that offers 2X optical zoom and 5X hybrid zoom. If you want to push it further, the Reno 2 can go up to 20x zoom in digital. In addition, the device also has an 8MP ultra-wide-angle and a 2MP mono lens for portrait mode.
The camera also comes with a low-light mode that’s called Ultra Dark Mode. For steady videos, it also boasts an Ultra Steady Mode which uses a combination of OIS and EIS. Keeping the lights on is a 4,000mAh battery that supports VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 via USB-C. Interestingly, it also gets a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Oppo Reno 2 Z
The Reno 2 Z is a cheaper alternative and it comes with a different design. Instead of the iconic Reno wedge-shaped module, it uses a typical pop-up selfie camera that elevates from the middle.
The device gets a 6.53″ AMOLED display and under the hood, it runs on a MediaTek Helio P90 processor. It has 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage.
The rear also gets a quad-camera setup but it doesn’t come with a telephoto lens. It offers a 48MP f/2.0 Sony IMX586 main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and two 2MP shooters for Portrait mode. The main camera still supports Ultra Steady Video as well as Ultra Dark Mode. The device also gets a 4,000mAh battery that supports VOOC Flash Charge 3.0.
Oppo Reno 2 F
The most affordable of the lot is the Reno 2 F. It also retains a similar 6.53″ AMOLED display and a pop-up 16MP selfie camera as the 2 Z, but it runs on an older MediaTek Helio P70 processor. It still comes with 8GB of RAM but storage is half at 128GB on board.
Like the 2 Z, it also gets a quad-camera setup that consists of a 48MP f/1.79 main shooter, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera and two 2MP cameras for Portrait Mode 2.0. Also unchanged is a 4,000mAh battery that supports VOOC Flash 3.0 charging.
Pricing and availability
In India, the Reno 2 is priced at 36,990 INR (about RM2,173) and it will be available on 20th September. The Reno 2 Z is going for 29,990 INR (about RM1,756) and it’s hitting the shelves earlier on 6th September. For the cheaper Reno 2 F, we still don’t know its pricing details just yet but it’s coming much later in November.
