Want a Huawei P30 that looks like a Google Pixel?

Although the Mate 30 series is just right around the corner, the Huawei P30 is still a solid smartphone at the moment. According to a Dutch website, it looks like Huawei is working on new special colour editions for the P30 and it could be revealed at the upcoming IFA 2019 event.

Two patent filings with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) reveal an interesting dual-tone colour design that looks like the Google Pixel series. One of it features a Breathing Crystal paint job that has what appears to be a matte-looking finish for the bottom half.

There’s also a P30 that comes in a black and white colour scheme. Somehow it reminds me of the old Sony Ericsson T610 or a Nokia 6300. This isn’t the first time Huawei has played around with a dual-tone appearance. The recently introduced Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 also gets the same treatment on a plastic rear panel.

In terms of specs, you can expect the same hardware which includes a 6.1″ OLED display, a Kirin 980 processor and a 3,650mAh battery. So far there are no signs that these new colour editions will be offered for the higher-spec P30 Pro model.

For the standard P30, it comes with a triple-camera setup that consists of a 40MP f/1.8 1/1.7″ main camera, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom. The device has no IP68 dust/water resistance like the Pro model but it still retains a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are expected to be announced as early as the end of September, so it is logical for Huawei to reveal the special edition P30s ahead of their next flagship launch. What do you think of the design?
