Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro design and key specs revealed

Xiaomi will introduce its new Redmi Note series tomorrow and we now have a better idea of what to expect thanks to several teaser images shared via their Weibo account. The Redmi Note series is always known for providing the best value for money if you’re looking for a mid-range smartphone. This year, they are launching the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Redmi Note 8 Pro

The Pro model is their most powerful mid-range smartphone yet and it comes with a quad-camera setup. As teased previously, the device uses a 64MP Samsung GW1 sensor that promises to offer greater clarity and better performance in low-light.

In terms of design, it looks somewhat similar to the Redmi K20 (aka Mi 9T) where it gets a premium looking curved glass back and the cameras are aligned vertically in the middle. There’s still a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and the display will still come with a tiny notch, like the current Redmi Note 7.

Xiaomi has also confirmed that the Pro model will be running on the latest MediaTek Helio G90T processor that is designed for gaming. The processor is claimed to push a score of over 220,000 points on Antutu, which is higher than what you can get a Mi 9T that runs on a Snapdragon 730 unit. The device also comes with liquid cooling that could reduce temperatures up to 6 degrees celsius.

According to a purported spec-sheet, the device will get a rather large 6.53″ Full HD+ display and it can be configured with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. Apart from the 48MP main camera, the device is listed with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. What’s interesting is that the device will also get a 2MP macro camera that supports auto-focus and you can go closer up to 2cm. For selfies, the device is expected to come with a 20MP front camera.

What’s interesting is that the device is expected to come with a large 4,500mAh battery that supports fast charging via USB-C. The list also mentions a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC and infra-red blaster.

Redmi Note 8

For the standard Redmi Note 8, Xiaomi has also shared a teaser image which looks like a Redmi Note 7 with more cameras. It also gets a quad-camera setup and the main shooter uses a 48MP sensor.

Instead of a MediaTek processor, the Redmi Note 8 will be running on a Snapdragon 665 processor, which is currently powering the Mi A3. Although it has similar Kryo 260 Gold and Silver CPU cores as the 14nm Snapdragon 660, the new processor uses a more efficient 11nm process. This should translate to better power efficiency when compared to its predecessor.
