This post is brought to you by HONOR.

In a glitzy event held at London in May this year, HONOR revealed one of their most anticipated devices ever – the HONOR 20 Pro.

The HONOR 20 Pro made headlines because of its flagship-class specifications wrapped nicely in a price tag that is expected to significantly undercut several of the flagship smartphones in the market today.

But while the HONOR 20 Pro promises a flagship-class smartphone for a great price, the more intriguing feature is its camera. At the same event, it was announced that the HONOR 20 Pro received a DxOMark score of 111 making the device one of the best cameras on a smartphone yet. The score is the second-highest among all the phones the website has tested.

But what does it mean to have a score of 111 on DxOMark?

DxOMark is a website providing image quality ratings for standalone cameras, lenses but the website is most well-known for its smartphone camera rating.

DxOMark is widely regarded by many as the benchmark when it comes to camera comparison because of its consistent testing methodology and detailed analysis on various aspects of camera performance including exposure and contrast, colour, autofocus performance, bokeh, and more.

For its smartphone camera tests DxOMark capture and evaluates over 1500 test images and more than two hours of video both in controlled lab environments and in natural indoor and outdoor scenes, using the camera’s default settings.

Based on the analysis, DxOMark assigns a score to the smartphone and ranks it with the other smartphones that it has tested. To date, the website has tested over 60 phones and the HONOR 20 Pro earns the distinction of being not only the first HONOR device to be tested by DxOMark but also one of the highest scores ever awarded.

The HONOR 20 Pro earned a DxOMark score of 111 points just one point shy of the Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung galaxy, phones that easily cost RM1,000 more than the HONOR 20 Pro.

The score of 111 points also means that that the HONOR 20 Pro ranks higher than the capable camera phones like the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro as well as the Samsung Galaxy S10+, all of which received a score of 109 points from DxOMark.

One of the best cameras you can get on a smartphone right now

But why is the HONOR 20 Pro so good? It’s a combination of two things, hardware and software.

The HONOR 20 Pro packs one of the best camera hardware available in the market right now. Its quad-camera array features a 48MP main camera mated to an industry-leading f/1.4 aperture lens. The large aperture allows the HONOR 20 Pro to capture images in challenging low-light situations with ease and a massive reduction in noise and blur.

In addition to the 48MP camera, the HONOR 20 Pro is equipped with 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and a 2MP shooter specifically tuned for macro photography.

To ensure ultra-sharp images and buttery smooth video the HONOR 20 Pro is equipped with optical image stabilisation and electronic for both the main and telephoto cameras.

What images can a camera with 111 points on DxOMark capture?

Take a look.

The complete package

As far as mid-range devices go, the HONOR 20 Pro offers the complete package with it’s rich and vibrant 6.26-inch Full HD+ display. It runs on Huawei’s Kirin 980 flagship processor with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. The Kirin 980 is a notable processor because of its efficient power optimisation and advanced performance capabilities making it one of the best mobile processors in the market today.

Even with the frugal processor, the HONOR 20 Pro is packed with a large-capacity 4,000mAh battery with support for 22.5W SuperCharge fast charging tech via USB-C. You can expect the HONOR 20 Pro to be able to run all day easily, even with heavy usage.

Now available in Malaysia with a 2-year warranty

Recently, HONOR Malaysia has confirmed that the HONOR 20 Pro will go on sale in Malaysia from August 15th. In terms of pricing, the HONOR 20 Pro is retailing at RM2,299 with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. The device will be covered by a 2-year warranty when purchased by 30th September 2019.

As a reference, the standard HONOR 20 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at RM1,699, while the HONOR View 20 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is currently going for RM1,899.
