Almost nine months after the Redmi Note 7 was introduced this year, Xiaomi is expected to announce its new Redmi 8 and Redmi Note 8 very soon. A new budget device has appeared online and this is believed to be the new Redmi 8.
The device has passed China’s TENAA certification and it has also revealed a couple of hardware details. The device has a 6.22″ HD+ display, which is slightly smaller than the current Redmi 7 and it runs on a 2.0GHz octa-core processor. The device can be configured with up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB of expandable storage.
What’s interesting is that the device is listed with a huge 5,000mAh battery. This could probably last for a couple of days on a single charge especially with its lower-resolution screen.
A couple of hands-on photos have also surfaced online and it comes with a reflective glossy back with a dual-camera (12MP + 8MP) array and rear-mounted fingerprint sensor aligned vertically on a black strip.
Over at the front, the display has a waterdrop notch and interestingly, the bottom chin has enough space for a “Redmi” branding. Looking at the screenshot, it appears to be running on a Snapdragon 439 processor with Android 9 out of the box. It is worth pointing out that the current Redmi 7 is powered by a higher-tier Snapdragon 632 unit.
For the higher-spec Redmi Note 8, Redmi’s VP Lu Weibing has hinted that the device will feature a higher screen to body ratio and it will provide a longer-lasting battery. It is also speculated to come with a 64MP main camera supplied by Samsung.
The Redmi 8 could be launched in China as early as the end of this month or early September. This could be the most affordable smartphone with a 5,000mAh battery.
