Penang Smart Parking app now available, RM5 free credit for first 10,000 users

[ UPDATE 22/8/2019 14:00] Penang Smart Parking app now available for Android smartphones.

Penang has just launched its Penang Smart Parking System (PSP) app which allows drivers to pay for parking via their smartphones. During the launch, Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, had announced that the first 10,000 users will be entitled to RM5 worth of free credits.

At the time of writing, the app is already available for download on Apple’s AppStore but we still can’t find it on Google Play. To reload, the app accepts various top-up options including online banking, 7-Eleven, Boost and WeChat Pay.

According to the Chief Minister, the app will encourage the public the utilise eWallet technologies such as Boost, Touch ‘n Go and Grab Pay as they are heading towards a smart state. He added that it may take one to two years for people to get used to the system.

It was earlier reported that Penang has Malaysia’s first smart parking system that uses a combination of Internet of Things (IoT), sensor technology, direction guide system and online payment system. There are 36,000 parking bays in the state with 12,000 under the supervision of Penang City Council (PCC) and 24,000 bays under the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (SPMC).
