Logitech’s new mechanical keyboards use switches that are 25% faster

For those of you who enjoy mechanical keyboards for gaming, or even those of us who spend the majority of our time typing (such as this writer), crafting a good keyboard can be an art form in itself. And now, Logitech has announced 2 new mechanical keyboards: the G915 Lightspeed Wireless and the G815 Lightsync RGB.

Both keyboards will utilise Logitech’s new low-profile GL Switches, which are half the height of standard switches. This also means that the switches are 25% faster to press, according to Logitech. Depending on your preferences, the GL Switches are available in 3 variants: linear, tactile, and clicky. You can head over here for more information and to listen to the different sound profiles of each variant’s keystroke.

In line with other gaming mechanical keyboards, both the G915 and the G815 will feature RGB lighting (up to 16.8 million colours) and 5 programmable macro keys. While the G815 is connected via USB 2.0 that supports 100% passthrough charging, the G915 will connect wirelessly via Logitech’s Lightspeed technology (2.4GHz)—this uses a dongle that will take up a port on your PC, as opposed to Bluetooth keyboards. However, The Verge reports that they have found Lightspeed to be very reliable.

You can expect to get up to 135 days of battery life with the RGB lighting turned off, but if they’re on—and we fully expect most users to have them on—this drops down to 12 days on a single charge.

At the moment, the Logitech G915 Lightspeed Wireless and the G815 Lightsync RGB aren’t available on the Malaysian Logitech store yet, although reports suggest that the 2 models will be available in the U.S. for US$249.99 (about RM1,046) and US$199.99 (about RM837) respectively.
