It appears that Huawei is pushing back the release of its Mate X. Initially scheduled to be available in September, the foldable device that can transform from a smartphone into a tablet form factor, is now expected to hit the shelves after the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
According to TechRadar, the delay was revealed during a press event at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen. It is reported that a commercial release before November is now unlikely, but they are confident that the Mate X will be launched to the public by the end of this year.
The Huawei Mate X was initially delayed to allow more room for testing after Samsung recalled its first batch of Galaxy Fold review units due to reliability issues. Apart from testing, Huawei has also made some significant hardware changes to the foldable device as well.
Huawei CEO for Consumer Business Group was recently spotted holding an updated version that comes with a quad-camera setup. The release button which is required to unfold the device has been tweaked as well for a more flush appearance.
TechRadar also added that Huawei has made some refinements to the “Falcon Hinge” and they have also tried to replace the steel back with aluminium to reduce its overall weight by 20 grams. However, it appears that Huawei will still continue to use steel in the final version as aluminium is said to be not strong enough.
The Chinese smartphone maker is also said to be working on another Mate X model with multiple-screens but it is expected to be announced much later in 2020.
If you want to get your hands on a foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold is expected to be released in Malaysia next month. According to a reliable source, the Galaxy Fold will be priced under RM8,000. In case you missed it, you can check out our hands-on with the Mate X below:
