Sony Xperia 1 is launching in Malaysia soon

After spotting the Xperia 1 on SIRIM’s database, we have received information from a source close to the matter that the Sony Xperia 1 will be announced officially in Malaysia very soon. This is Sony’s current flagship which is the first smartphone to feature a 4K OLED display with a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio.

Based on what we know so far, Sony Malaysia will be selling the device on its direct channels such as Sony Stores. This isn’t surprising since the Xperia 1’s certification is applied under Sony (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. instead of a distributor. We still don’t know the pricing and availability details just yet but hopefully, they will release the device soon.

As reported earlier, Sony Mobile has exited from several markets and their smartphones are only sold in a small number of countries which include Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. In the last quarter (Q2 2019), Sony had only sold 0.9 million smartphones which marks a 55% drop year-on-year. During its peak in Q4 2014, Sony Mobile had sold 11.9 million units.

At the moment, the Xperia 1 import set with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage is now going for RM3,790 on Lazada. It runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor and it features a triple-camera setup that offers both ultra-wide-angle and telephoto. Powering the 4K smartphone is a 3,330mAh battery and it still retains an IP68-rated dust and water resistance. Unfortunately, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack and no support for wireless charging.
