If you’re looking for an alternative way to own a car, Renault has officially introduced its subscription service in Malaysia. Instead of being locked down to a long-term loan, the subscription service lets you get a car with greater flexibility without the need to worry about vehicle depreciation.
At the moment, the Renault Subscription service has two SUV options – Renault Captur and a Renault Koleos. You have a choice of either 1-year or 2-year subscription and the monthly subscription fee includes insurance, road tax and maintenance. During sign up, you are required to pay a refundable security deposit of RM2,500 for the Captur or RM3,500 for the Koleos.
Fixed Subscription Plan
You can drive the Captur from RM1,299/month on a 2-year contract or RM1,499/month on a shorter 1-year period. If you do the math, that calculates to about RM43/day on a 2-year contract and you won’t have to worry about paying for service, road tax and insurance.
For the Koleos, it will cost you RM2,299/month for two years and RM2,499/month for one year. The more premium Koleos Signature is also available at RM2,699/month for two years and RM2,899 for one year.
Do note that the Fixed Subscription plan comes with an annual mileage cap of 20,000KM. If you need more, you can add RM200/month to get extra 10,000KM mileage per year. Otherwise, you will be charged RM0.50 per KM for excess usage at the end of the subscription.
According to Renault, wear & tear parts are not covered under the subscription programme. However, the website does mention that you can add a wear & tear package for an extra RM100/month for the 2-year subscription plan.
Switch Plan
To mix things up, Renault is also offering a Switch Plan which allows you to get a Captur plus the option to drive the larger Koleos for certain months. The base switch plan that comes with 2 months of Renault Koleos costs RM1,999/month. Meanwhile, the Prime switch plan which gives you access to the Koleos for 4 months costs RM2,199/month
Both options require a security deposit of RM3,500 and the plans come with unlimited mileage. Also included are insurance, road tax, maintenance package as well as wear and tear.
According to the FAQ, the subscription service is open to all Malaysians or Malaysian residents who have a valid driver’s license and companies. It is currently only available in the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru. For deliveries at other locations (except East Malaysia), they will charge a transportation fee of RM1,000.
As a promo, Renault is offering a free 1-month subscription offer for a limited time. This is applicable to the fixed plan and the free subscription will be applied on the 7th month of your tenure. To learn more, you can visit Renault’s Subscription page and you can also check out their FAQ.
If you’re looking for a short term alternative, GoCar is offering the Renault Captur at RM2,500/month. It costs more than Renault’s subscription plan but you can get it with a shorter minimum commitment of one month. At the moment, they are running a promo where you can get 50% off for your first month, but this offer is tied with a minimum contract of 3 months.
