Black Shark updates its gaming smartphone with faster Snapdragon 855+ processor and UFS 3.0 storage

Black Shark, the gaming brand backed by Xiaomi has finally unveiled its Black Shark 2 Pro smartphone. As teased earlier, this is the second smartphone to utilise Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855+ processor.

The Black Shark 2 Pro looks similar to the current Black Shark 2 but there are some design tweaks at the rear which comes with a new lighting array. Upfront, it comes with a 6.39″ AMOLED display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There’s no fancy 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate but it does offer a 240Hz touch polling rate. The screen also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 855+ processor that’s clocked at 2.96GHz and it’s paired with 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM. Similar to the Black Shark 2, it also comes with Liquid Cooling 3.0 that helps to manage heat during extensive gaming sessions.

For storage, the updated gaming device now uses a faster UFS 3.0 storage which is similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro and ROG Phone II. The rest of the hardware is pretty much the same as the current Black Shark 2. The rear still retains a 48MP f/1.8 main camera as well as a secondary 12MP f/2.2 telephoto camera. For selfies, it still gets a 20MP front shooter.

Powering the device is still a 4,000mAh battery and it supports 27W fast charging via USB-C. Out of the box, it runs on Android 9.0 Pie and it still doesn’t come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In China, the Black Shark 2 Pro is officially priced at 2,999CNY (about RM1,802) for the 128GB storage model and 3,499CNY (about RM2,102) for the 256GB option.
