MediaTek’s new Helio G90T processor is designed for incredible gaming experience

MediaTek has just announced its new Helio G90 series chip which is focused on gaming. Apart from having the latest CPU and GPU cores with ultra-fast memory and AI performance, the new chip is paired with MediaTek’s HyperEngine technology that can boost your mobile gaming experience.

The G90 is an octa-core chip that’s manufactured based on a 12nm FFC process. It has two high-performance Cortex A76 cores running at 2.0GHz and six Cortex A55 cores that are also clocked at 2.0GHz. For graphics, it gets an ARM Mali G76 GPU running at 720MHz which is similar to Huawei’s Kirin 980 SoC. MediaTek has also released a speed-binned Helio G90T version that runs at a higher 2.05GHz for CPU and 800MHz for GPU.

The new chip can support up to 10GB of LPDDR4x RAM and in the imaging department, it can support up to 64MP for a single cam or 24MP + 16MP for a dual-camera configuration. In terms of AI, it also boasts a performance of 1TMACs through a combination of CPU, GPU and APU. According to Anandtech, this new chip appears to be a contender to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 700 series.

The G90 series also supports fast 4G LTE connectivity up to 1Gbps using an advanced Cat-12 LTE WorldMode modem. It can also support dual 4G SIM connectivity with VoLTE along with 3x carrier aggregation and 4×4 MIMO.

For better WiFi connectivity with lower latency, the Helio G series also supports dual-WiFi connectivity which allows your smartphone to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands simultaneously. This sounds similar to Oppo and Vivo’s new WiFi feature.

Xiaomi India CEO, Manu Kumar, was at the MediaTek event and he has shared that the new MediaTek Helio G90 chip will be coming to a new gaming smartphone. According to his tweet, the device has an Antutu score of over 220,000 points. That’s higher than the Xiaomi Mi 9T that is powered by a Snapdragon 730. Could this be the new Redmi smartphone that has a Samsung 64MP camera?
