Google has just launched a new 10MB-sized app that will help users organise their photos offline—Gallery Go. The app was launched at the Google for Nigeria event, and is targeted towards emerging markets where users may not have reliable access to the internet.
This means that the app works entirely offline, and uses machine learning (just like Google Photos) to help with your photo organisation. The app also allows users to make simple edits, although this is limited to basic photo filters and crop options. Like Google Photos, you can also automatically enhance your images with a single tap.
I’ve downloaded the app on my smartphone, and can confirm that it works on Android devices with Android Oreo 8.1 and above—which might be a downside to the app, taking into account the target audience for Gallery Go. There aren’t many options—in fact, the interface is a simple layout where you can choose between Folders and Photos. It doesn’t appear to support cloud backups, so do keep that in mind when you use the app.
Ultimately, Gallery Go seems like a replacement for the standard Gallery app that most smartphones come preloaded with, and for those of you that want a minimalistic, simple photo organising app, this might work for you.
