The Xiaomi Mi A3 Malaysia launch date confirmed

The Mi A3 is Xiaomi’s third generation of Android One smartphones and while the Mi A1 and Mi A2 (read our Mi A2 review here) have been a class act when it comes to value for money smartphones that pack a punch. The Mi A3 serves up a mixed bag of components that puts Xiaomi’s reputation for making cheap and good smartphones in doubt.

The biggest letdown is, of course, the 6.088-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1560×720 pixels. This is a letdown because both the Mi A1 (5.5-inch Full HD 1920×1080) and Mi A2 (5.99-inch Full HD+ 2160×1080) had higher resolution displays than the Mi A3.

Beyond the display, the Mi A3 packs a mid-range Snapdragon 665 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of onboard storage.

For taking pictures, it features a triple-camera setup with AI — 48MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and 2MP camera for depth effects. Powering the Mi A3 is a larger 4,030mAh battery which is 34% larger in capacity than the Mi A2.

And so, it will all come down to pricing. To justify the display downgrade, the Mi A3 will need to be sold at a very good price when it is officially launched in Malaysia. Perhaps maybe even cheaper than its predecessors. The Mi A2 retailed for RM999 when it was launched in August last year while the Mi A1 was sold for RM1,099 when it was first released in Malaysian in 2017.

Speaking of official launches, you won’t have to wait long for the Mi A3 to come to Malaysia as the official launch is happening on Wednesday, 31 July.

No further details were made available to us but you can expect that Xiaomi will be working with retailers to offer some bargains and deals in conjunction with the launch of the Mi A3 here.

In the meantime, if you can’t wait to get your hands on a unit, retailer Mobile2Go has the Mi A3 in stock right now if you’re interested.
