Qualcomm has announced a new update to its Snapdragon 855 processor with a new Snapdragon 855+ variant. It runs at a higher clock speed and it offers better performance for mobile gaming.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855+ offers 15% faster graphics rendering and an uplift in CPU performance over the current standard Snapdragon 855. With all cores fired up, the processor is claimed to pack 3 times the power of a Snapdragon 845, offering ultra-responsive intelligence for AI applications, smoother gameplay while managing your power usage efficiently.
The CPU cores on the 7nm based Snapdragon 855+ are similar as it still packs 4x Kryo 485 Gold cores for high performance and 4x Kryo 485 Silver cores for efficiency. The biggest difference is that its prime core is now bumped from 2.84GHz to 2.96GHz. Meanwhile, in the graphics department, the chip still uses an Adreno 640 but the speed is bumped from 585MHz to 672MHz.
While the Snapdragon 855 processor is widely used in most flagship devices today, the new Snapdragon 855+ is geared towards gaming-centric devices. You can probably see this on new gaming smartphones that are coming out in the second half of this year.
