Samsung’s next Galaxy Watch will come with ECG and fall detection

Samsung will launch its Galaxy Note 10 next month and there’s a possibility that it could be announced alongside a new smartwatch. The new wearable is going to be called the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and according to Sammobile, it will come with a couple of new features that were recently introduced with the new Apple Watch Series 4.

Similar to the current Galaxy Watch Active, the new watch does not come with a rotating bezel. It still has a round watch face and it is said to be available in 40mm and 44mm sizes.

According to Sammobile’s reliable sources, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will introduce an ECG feature which allows you to get an electrocardiogram reading directly from your wrist. The Watch is also said to be able to capture your heart rhythm when it detects rapid, skipped or irregular heartbeats.

Similar to the Apple Watch, it will be able to provide notifications when it detects signs of Atrial Fibrillation. Of course, this feature would likely require FDA clearance and approval from respective authorities in various countries.

Another potential life-saving feature that’s coming to the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is fall detection. If a fall is detected, it will show an alert on the screen which allows the user to get help with a single tap. If there is no response for a period of time, the watch will automatically call for help by contacting a preset of emergency contacts.

As usual, it is likely that the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will come in both WiFi and LTE editions. Since Samsung is heading towards a wireless future, you can expect it to support wireless charging like the current Galaxy Watch Active. The current Watch is priced at RM799 and it’s available in Rose Gold, Black and Silver.
