AirAsia cancels flights to-and-from Melaka due to airport’s navigation system failure

AirAsia had recently started flying between Melaka and Penang. Unfortunately, the daily flight service has been suspended temporarily due to a navigation system failure at Melaka International Airport (LTAM) in Batu Berendam.

According to The Star, the VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) navigational aid and Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Melaka Airport were inoperable. As a result, they have cancelled six flights and will resume the daily service on 6th July when its systems are back online.

It was also reported that two flights – Penang to Melaka (AK6284) and Melaka to Penang (AK6285) – were cancelled today. AirAsia had arranged bus transportation to move stranded passengers to KLIA2 for them to continue their journey to Penang. It’s also reported that some passengers had extended their stay in Melaka.
