Huawei Nova 5 is expected to arrive in Malaysia soon

Since the U.S. has lifted restrictions on Huawei, we can expect more Android smartphones to be released by the Chinese smartphone maker. Their latest Huawei Nova 5 series is expected to come to Malaysia very soon and we managed to get a glimpse of the device at today’s press conference.

According to Bill Liu, Huawei Malaysia’s Country Director for Consumer Business, they are already in the planning stage for the Nova 5 series. No launch dates were mentioned and it isn’t clear if Malaysia will be getting all three models – Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro and Nova 5i.

The Huawei Nova 5 series comes with a quad-camera setup and it was launched in China two weeks ago. The top of the line Nova 5 Pro features a 6.39″ Full HD+ OLED display that comes with a tiny notch and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Powering the device is a flagship-class Kirin 980 processor.

For imaging, the device has a similar camera setup as the Honor 20. It features a 48MP f/1.8 main camera, a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens, and two 2MP shooters that’s used for depth and macro shots. In front, the device comes with a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera.

There’s also a more affordable Nova 5 which is pretty much identical to the Pro model but it runs on a new Kirin 810 processor. This is Hi-Silicon’s latest mid-range SoC that’s based on a 7nm process and it comes with its own dedicated NPU. According to Antutu, the Kirin 810 processor performs better than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730 processor in their benchmark tests.

Huawei has also announced the Nova 5i in China. It gets a 6.4″ punch-hole Full HD+ display and it runs on last year’s Kirin 710 processor. Unlike the Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro, this device still accepts microSD card expansion and it still retains a 3.5mm headphone jack.
