[Update] This Malaysian retailer offers a full refund if your Huawei device loses Google Play Store access

[UPDATE 24/6/2019 12:00PM]: DirectD has updated that this refund campaign is only applicable to original Huawei Malaysia units that are purchased via DirectD. It is valid for new devices bought starting today, 24th June 2019.

To address uncertainties when it comes to Huawei smartphones, Malaysian retailer, DirectD, is now offering full refunds if your new device loses access to Google’s collection of Android apps and services. This is similar to what was offered recently in the Philippines and it covers the entire range of new Huawei models.

According to their Facebook announcement, you can get 100% full refunds on your new Huawei smartphone and tablet if Google Play Store, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp fails to work within the warranty period. The post included a link to its entire Huawei product category which covers both Huawei and Honor branded devices.

Do note that this full refund campaign only covers access to Android apps and services, and it doesn’t include software and security updates. Nevertheless, it is a good gesture to provide assurance that you can still continue to use your Huawei smartphone and applications even if the US government doesn’t revoke its ban after the 90-day reprieve.

Of course, the refund campaign comes with its own terms & conditions. It is likely that the offer is valid only for brand new purchases. We’ve reached out to DirectD for clarification and we will update once we have more details.
