[Update] The Galaxy Note 10’s main camera to get a triple-aperture feature

[UPDATE 21/06/2019 10:00AM]: We’ve updated the title as it was previously written as a world’s first feature. The Nokia N86 from 2009 had an 8MP camera that switches between f/2.4, f/3.2 and f/4.8 aperture.

=============

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will feature a similar triple-camera setup as the current Galaxy S10. However, it looks like Samsung has bigger plans for its main camera which will offer greater versatility for smartphone photography.

According to reliable leakster, Ice Universe, the Galaxy Note 10 will feature a three-stage variable aperture for its main camera which can switch between f/1.5, f/1.8 and f/2.4. As a comparison, the current Galaxy S9, Note9 and S10’s main camera offer dual-aperture of f/1.5 and f/2.4.

Unlike a typical camera system that has a fixed aperture, Samsung’s main camera has retractable aperture blades that can control how much light that enters the camera. The larger f/1.5 aperture will allow more light which is great for low light scenes while f/2.4 offers better sharpness in well-lit situations.

With a new f/1.8 option, this can be a sweet point for most occasions as some may find that f/1.5 tend to produce overexposed shots. For the average user, you won’t need to worry about this since the aperture is managed automatically by default unless you switch to Pro mode that offers manual controls.

There are no firm details yet on the other two cameras but it is likely to retain a similar ultra-wide-angle and telephoto zoom lens like its current flagships. The Galaxy Note 10 is expected to launch on 7th August 2019. Since Malaysia is a key market, you can expect it to go on sale shortly after the global announcement. Apart from the standard model, Samsung is expected to introduce a Galaxy Note 10 Pro model that comes with a quad-camera setup.
