Setel, the app that lets you pay for petrol with your smartphone has just kicked off a Refer a Friend campaign. To encourage more signups, Setel will reward users with up to RM7 per successful referral and there’s no limit to how many people you can refer. On top of that, your friends will also get RM5 credit for free.
The Refer a Friend program has a tiered system where you’ll get RM5 for the first successful referral and RM6 for your second referral. On the 3rd referral onward, you’ll be rewarded with RM7 for every successful signup. Do note that they would need to purchase a minimum of RM30 before you can receive your reward.
For new users, Setel is still running its cashback promo where you can get 10% cashback for the first 30 days from your account creation. You’ll need to use Setel a minimum of three times with an accumulative RM90 usage to start receiving the cashback. The promo has a maximum rebate amount of RM15 per account.
If you’re new to Setel, it is a digital payment app which aims to make refuelling as seamless as possible. From the app, it knows which station you’re in and all you’ll need to do is to select the pump number, the amount you wish to pump and verify the transaction via pin number, fingerprint or Face ID. It’s easier than paying via credit card at the pump as you can authorise payment before you step out from the car. Once you’re done, you’ll receive a digital receipt on your phone which makes it easy for company claims.
The Setel app also provides better flexibility for those who don’t own a credit card. Since you can top up any amount you want, there’s no need to worry about the typical RM200 hold when you use a debit card. Just top up exactly how much you need and you can also linked your Mesra card to earn points with every transaction.
You can top up Setel with your credit or debit card, as well as online banking. For credit card payments, there’s even an auto-reload feature for greater convenience. Although it looks like an eWallet, you can’t use it for retail purchases at the moment. In the future, you could potentially use Setel for buying items at Kedai Mesra. You can learn more in our first impressions post.
At the moment, Setel is supported at all 273 Petronas station throughout the Klang Valley. The digital payment system will expand to major cities throughout West Malaysia by August and they aim to cover all Petronas stations nationwide by end of 2019. The Setel app is available for both Android and iOS.
