Xiaomi Mi 9T is launching in Malaysia on 20th June

The Redmi K20 which is also known as the Mi 9T is coming to Malaysia very soon. Xiaomi Malaysia has dropped a media invite for a local launch that’s taking place on 20th June 2019 in Kuala Lumpur.

The Mi 9T is the global name for Redmi’s latest flagship series and the global launch is happening this coming Wednesday in Europe. The device is also Xiaomi’s first smartphone to feature a pop-up selfie camera. We still don’t know if the higher-spec Mi 9T Pro version will be making its way to Malaysia and we will find out more at next week’s event.

To recap on the specs, the Redmi K20 series comes with a 6.39″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that has an in-display fingerprint sensor. For the Pro model, it runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor, while the standard model gets a Snapdragon 730 unit. Both can be configured with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

For selfies, the K20 series gets a 20MP pop-up selfie camera which rises in 0.8 seconds. In the K20 Pro model, it gets a triple-camera setup consisting of a 48MP main + 13MP ultra-wide-angle + 8MP telephoto unit with 2X optical zoom. Meanwhile, the K20 variant gets a 48MP main + 13MP ultra-wide-angle + 8MP portrait telephoto camera setup.

[UPDATE 11/06/2019 18:16]: Turns out that the K20 (non-pro)’s 8MP camera is a telephoto shooter with 2X Optical Zoom instead of an 8MP portrait camera that was stated on their official image as shown above. The official product site is showing the correct specs for the triple-camera setup.

Both versions are powered by a 4,000mAh battery that charges via USB-C. Also retained is a 3.5mm headphone jack. For the K20 Pro model, it supports faster 27W fast charging but an 18W charger is included in the box. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out our unboxing of the Redmi K20 Pro.
