The excitement surrounding Google’s cloud-based gaming service, Google Stadia, has been building for some time now. Initially announced during the 2019 Game Developer’s conference in March 2019, Google will be utilising a Netflix-like subscription based service—meaning that you’ll be able to stream and play AAA titles from console and PC for a fixed monthly fee. However, Destiny 2 is the only game confirmed to be part of the subscription, and cloud games will be sold separately. Games will run at up to 4K resolution and 60fps, depending on your internet connection.
Google announced during the official Google Stadia Connect stream today that subscription fees are expected to begin at a base monthly fee of US$9.99 (about RM41), while a ‘Founder’s Edition’ will be available for pre-order for US$129 (about RM536).
The ‘Founder’s Edition’ package will come with a limited edition Google Stadia controller, 3 months of Stadia Pro service, and a Chromecast Ultra. This is in addition to bundled access to Destiny 2 and a buddy pass for 3 months of Stadia Pro that you can give to a friend.
Oh, and you get the added privilege of choosing your Stadia name before regular users have the chance to.
Google has revealed in their livestream that the official release of the highly-anticipated service will be in November 2019, although only a limited number of regions have been confirmed:
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that Google Stadia will be officially released in Malaysia—do check back from time to time to see if there are any developments.
For the time being, Google Stadia will be available on Google Pixel devices upon release. However, seeing as you’ll be able to create and manage account and subscriptions from any Android M (and above) and iOS 11 (and above) devices, hopes are high that support for other mobile devices will be rolled out in time.
Google also revealed that free access to Stadia will be available sometime in 2020 (no games included, resolution limited to 1080p).
