WWDC 2019: Apple’s new app helps women predict when they’re fertile

Updates Apple announced at WWDC today are many and varied. There are announcements for developers, for pro users, for iPhone, for iPad and for Apple watch.

And tuck in among the many updates coming to the Apple Watch with watchOS 6 is the new Cycle Tracking app. The app helps women track menstrual cycles as well as predict fertile window right from the Apple Watch.

There’s a daily log function that enables the quick addition of information related to the menstrual cycle, including current period, flow, symptoms, results from ovulation prediction kits and other elements of fertility tracking. And if you don’t have an Apple Watch, Cycle Tracking is also available in the Health app on the iPhone with iOS 13.

In any case, there are many third-party apps that do this already so the Cycle Tracking app is not necessarily bringing anything new to the table but having the feature built right into Apple Watch is certainly an added convenience.

The Cycle Tracking app will be available with watchOS 6 for the Apple Watch and iOS 13 for the iPhone sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
