In the early hours today, Google had faced issues with its Cloud service. As a result, it had caused outages on several depended applications including 3rd-party services. Several users in the US and Europe had problems accessing YouTube and Gmail while other applications that rely on Google Cloud such as Discord, Snapchat and Video are affected as well. E-commerce platform, Shopify, was reported to be affected and the issue had prevented some merchants from processing card payment for hours.
On Google’s G Suite Status Dashboard, it appears that the majority of its cloud-based productivity tools which include Gmail, Drive and Google Docs are experiencing service outages. The only two services that are spared are Google Cloud Search and Google+.
According to the Down Detector site, the outage mostly affected the East Coast of the US along with several countries in Europe, Japan and Australia. The search giant blamed the issue on high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA. In a statement to The Verge, Google says they will conduct a post mortem and make appropriate improvements to their systems to prevent this from happening again.
