The Apple iMac is back and this time it comes with more power and improved graphics. And since I have the iMac 2019 here with me, let’s check out what is the iMac 2019 all about.
Inside the massive iMAC box, you will find yourself all the essentials. You will get a Magic Keyboard, a Magic Mouse 2, a lightning to USB-A cable as well as a powercord.
If you notice the design of the iMac is basically the same as the 2017 model. You still get your sleek and thin screen and at the back you will still find a shiny apple logo and some ports behind – 3.5mm headphone jack, an SD card slot, 2 USB-C port, a LAN port and 4 USB-A ports.
Other features that remained unchanged are the FaceTime HD camera, stereo speakers as well as the microphone.
So now let’s talk about its display. So this iMac here features a 21.5” Retina 4K display and it pushes a 4096×2304 resolution. It is also a 16:9 LED panel and it has 500 nits of brightness. If you need a bigger screen, there’s a 27” option which will cost you more.
So the stand of the iMac remains non adjustable for height, but you can always tilt the screen up or down to suit your needs.
Out of the box, it runs on Mac OS 10 Mojave and it comes with a couple of useful feature. First thing I like is that it supports Dark Mode, which makes it more pleasant to look at.
There’s also stacks which automatically organize your files on desktop based on the file type, this is great for those with messy desktops, you know who you are.
And one of my favourite features is the continuity camera. This allows you to scan document or insert a photo directly from your iPhone with just a few clicks.
Going back to the hardware, the biggest change of this iMac is that it has a faster CPU, Graphics as well as RAM. The unit we have here is powered by a 8th generation 3.0GHz Core i5 processor with 6 cores and Turbo Boost support up to 4.1GHz. If you need more power the iMac 21.5” is also available with a core i7 option.
This is also the first 21.5” iMac to support 6 core CPU because the previous gen iMac only gets a quad core CPU.
Having more cores is great for power users, especially if you are always does a lot of video editing. The graphics card is also upgraded. This model gets a 4GB Radeon Pro 560X. It also gets 8GB of RAM and 1TB of Fusion Drive. But of course you can configure the 21.5” iMac with up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD.
So now let’s talk about it’s price. This specific configuration is priced at RM6,499 and it comes together with the Apple Mouse II as well as the Magic Keyboard.
And for those of you who didn’t know, every Mac comes with a one year limited warranty and it gets up to 90days of complementary technical support.
