Asus ZenFone 6 has the best selfie camera according to DxOMark

The Asus ZenFone 6 is a very different kind of flagship device. Not only it is a Snapdragon 855 powered smartphone with the largest battery ever, the device also comes with a unique flip-up camera design. Essentially, this allows you to take selfies with the best cameras on the device.

The folks at DxOMark has just published its selfie review of the ZenFone 6 and they gave it the highest score yet at 98 points. The previous champion was the Galaxy S10 5G edition at 97 points, followed by the Galaxy S10+ at 96 points.

Based on DxOMark findings, the ZenFone 6 achieved 101 points in the photo department and 93 points for videos. Take note that these ratings are only applicable for the selfie category and they are different from the usual tests conducted for the main cameras. It will be interesting to see how it fares as a rear camera.

According to the photography benchmark site, the ZenFone 6 beats other contenders by quite some margin and it isn’t surprising since it uses the rear cameras which has a larger 1/2.0″ sensor. The ZenFone 6 utilises a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with an f/1.79 aperture and there’s also a secondary 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter.

As a result, the ZenFone 6 is said to have the best texture-noise trade-off and it has excellent detail across all light levels even in dim conditions. They added that noise is always under control and images show pleasantly natural detail rendering.

Unfortunately, they also found that the ZenFone 6 has a shallow depth of field for both photos and videos. This is acceptable for a personal selfie as it can produce natural bokeh, however, when it comes to group shots, the person behind you tend to be out of focus. It can also shoot 4K videos by default with decent stabilisation but DxOMark has also reported occasional unstable autofocus issues and frame skipping.
