Honor 20 Pro has a better camera than the Galaxy S10+ according to DxOMark

In a glitzy event in London, Honor launched their brand new flagship smartphone, the Honor 20 Pro. While it’s a very capable smartphone for a great price, DxOMark reveals that it also could have one of the best cameras on a smartphone yet, scoring the second highest among all the phones the website has tested.

The Honor 20 Pro scored an overall score of 111 points on DxOMark’s renown smartphone camera test, beating out top-of-the-line flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S10+ and Huawei Mate 20 Pro. This also means that this brand new device from the Huawei sub-brand ties the newly-launched OnePlus 7 Pro.

Honor 20 Pro secures a Photo score of 117, with DxOMark attributing this strong showing to the device’s ability in exposure, noise and zooming. However, they do note that the device is let down by its performance for detail, which DxOMark finds to be lower than what they often see with top-end devices, citing that there were a couple of distracting artifacts in its images.

With regards to video, the Honor 20 Pro scores 97, which DxOMark remarks is “respectable”, as it matches their scores for devices like the Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10+. DxOMark were particularly impressed with the device’s video colour rendering and stabilisation, however they did find the detail in 4K could have been better.

Honor’s new flagship smartphone utilises a quad-camera setup at the back. This includes a 48MP Sony IMX586 wide-angled camera with an f/1.4 aperture lens (the largest on a smartphone), a 16MP ultra-wide angled camera, an 8MP telephoto camera, and a 2MP macro camera for when you want to get real close to your subject.

The camera system also features optical image sabilisation (OIS) and an AIS Super Night Mode feature for low-light photography.
