Realme X is a pop-up selfie smartphone that comes in garlic and onion variants

Oppo’s sub-brand Realme has finally entered the Chinese market with the introduction of the Realme X. As seen earlier, this is Realme’s first smartphone to feature an all-screen display and it uses a pop-up selfie camera. If you’re looking for something different, the smartphone is also available in limited edition garlic and onion variants.

The Realme X itself looks like a mishmash of Oppo’s current devices. If you look at the design and spec-sheet, the Realme X is essentially an Oppo F11 Pro with Oppo Reno hardware.

Upfront, the device has a 6.53″ Full HD+ display that has no punch-holes or notches at the top. Under the hood, it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor which comes with up to 8GB of LPDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

For taking photos, it gets a familiar 48MP f/1.7 + 5MP f/2.4 dual-camera setup at the rear. Since there’s no notch on the display, the device features a 16MP f/2.0 pop-up selfie camera which is similar to the Oppo F11 Pro.

Keeping the lights on is a 3,765mAh battery that supports 20W VOOC 3.0 Flash Charging via USB-C. The device also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.

In China, the Realme X is priced as follows:

4GB RAM + 64GB storage – 1,499CNY (about RM905)
6GB RAM + 64GB storage – 1,599CNY (about RM965)
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – 1,799CNY (about RM1,085)

Realme X Garlic and Onion editions

Realme China has also introduced limited edition variant of the X. Instead of working with an automotive brand or partnering with a movie, the brand has collaborated with Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa for its limited edition device.

Inspired by nature, these Realme X variants feature fine textures of garlic and onion. According to Fukusawa, they had to undergo 72 gradient tests and over 300 samples to get the fine textures right on the smartphones. At the back, the Realme branding is repositioned to the right of the camera bump and it carries the signature of the designer.

These limited editions are priced slightly higher at 1,899CNY (about RM1,146). It comes with a single 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant.

Realme X Lite

In addition, Realme China has also introduced the Realme X Lite which is basically the same device as the Realme 3 Pro that was recently launched in Malaysia. It comes with a 6.3″ Full HD+ display, a Snapdragon 710 processor and a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera combo.

Instead of a pop-up selfie camera, the Realme X Lite has a notch that houses a 25MP f/2.0 front camera. The device also gets a 4,045mAh battery that supports 20W VOOC 3.0 Flash Charging via microUSB. In China, the Realme X Lite is priced as follows:

4GB RAM + 64GB storage – 1,199CNY (about RM724)
6GB RAM + 64GB storage – 1,299CNY (about RM784)
6GB RAM + 128GB storage – 1,499CNY (about RM905)
