OnePlus 7 Pro’s camera is better than the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Galaxy S10+ according to DxOMark Mobile

OnePlus smartphones are always known for its snappy performance but it often lags behind in the photography department. With the OnePlus 7 Pro, the company is stepping up with a new triple-camera array. It has a 48MP main camera that’s accompanied by a telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom and an ultra-wide-angle camera.

This year, it looks like OnePlus is finally heading towards the right direction as the OnePlus 7 Pro was given the second highest overall score on DxOMark Mobile. It outperforms other heavyweights like the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10+.

Overall, the OnePlus 7 Pro scored 111 points, which is just a point behind the latest Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G edition. In the photo category, it got 118 points while in the video section, it achieved 98 points.

According to the camera benchmark site, the OnePlus 7 Pro boasts excellent results in almost all of their sub-scores across both photo and video. They noted that the new flagship has a wide dynamic range that preserves both highlight and shadow detail in high-contrast scenes.

When it comes to zooming, they noted that the OnePlus 7 Pro’s 3x telephoto lens is capable of producing excellent results at close range. However, noise is more prevalent and the colour becomes slightly more desaturated at medium range but it still manages to maintain a good level of detail. Obviously, image quality deteriorates when you zoom in further and it still can’t beat the Huawei P30 Pro that has a periscope telephoto lens which is capable of doing 5X optical zoom and 10X hybrid zoom.

For videos, the device maintains well preserved details in all situations with accurate white balance and fast auto-focus. Stabilisation is said to be fairly effective but there’s noticeable coarse noise on moving objects in low light situations. They also noted there’s limited dynamic range in high contrast conditions while shooting videos.
