Sharp still makes smartphones primarily for the local Japan market and they have just introduced its new flagship model with the Aquos R3. Apart from the usual top-rate hardware, this device has a display that pushes a higher 120Hz refresh rate like the Razer Phone 2 and it comes with not one, but two notches.
The Sharp Aquos R3 features a 6.2″ Pro IGZO display that pushes a resolution of 3120×1440 pixels. With a 120Hz refresh rate, the display offers a fluid response with significantly less motion blur. To stretch the display edge to edge without increasing the size of the phone, it has a tiny notch at the top for the selfie camera and a wider notch at the bottom for the home button which doubles up as a fingerprint sensor.
Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor that has 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of UFS storage. If you need more storage, it also supports microSD expansion up to 512GB. For imaging, the rear gets a 12.2MP f/1.7 main camera for taking pictures and a secondary 20MP f/2.4 shooter for video recording. For selfies, there’s a 16MP front camera.
Powering the device is a 3,200mAh battery and it supports 11W Qi wireless charging. The Aquos R3 is also IP68-rated dust and water resistance as well. So far there’s no pricing yet and there’s no info on whether this device will be sold internationally.
