The next big thing from OnePlus will be announced officially on 14th May. This time, the smartphone maker that’s known for its snappy performance will be introducing at least two phones – the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Based on the teaser video, the upcoming device will continue to utilise glass and metal, and it comes with more curved surfaces. Somewhere in the 0:03 marker, the clip showed what appears to be a pop-up selfie camera cut out which could be featured on the more premium OnePlus 7 Pro.
The OnePlus 7 launch event will be taking place in New York and it will be streamed live at 11AM on 14th May. That’s 11PM Malaysian time on the same day. Interestingly, there will be a separate launch in Beijing that’s happening on the 16th May 2019.
Based on earlier speculation, the OnePlus 7 Pro could feature their biggest display yet measuring at 6.64″. According to OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, the screen on the OnePlus 7 Pro costs 3X the price of its predecessor’s display. Based on the clues, it could feature a higher refresh rate with a Quad HD+ resolution for a smoother visual experience.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is also expected to feature a triple-camera setup consisting of a 48MP main camera along with ultra-wide-angle and telephoto shooters. As usual, you can expect it to run on the latest Snapdragon 855 processor and it could come with 10GB of RAM.
If you’re looking for something more conventional, the standard OnePlus 7 is said to be featuring a more sizeable 6.2″ Full HD+ display and it comes with a dual-camera setup for the rear. Like the OnePlus 7 Pro, the standard model will also run on a top of the line Snapdragon 855 processor but it’s likely to come with less RAM and storage options to keep its pricing lower.
Looking at the past launches, it appears that Malaysia is currently a key market for OnePlus. For the OnePlus 6T, the device was announced on 30th October 2018 and the brand had started accepting pre-orders on the same day with stocks arriving on the following week. If OnePlus maintains this arrangement, it is possible that you can pre-order the OnePlus 7 series starting next month in Malaysia.
