The Samsung Galaxy Fold is finally going on sale next month and the Korean smartphone maker had sent out units to several influencers and tech reviewers. If you’re planning on getting a unit for yourself, there’s a thin layer of plastic on the internal display and this isn’t your factory fitted screen protector.
MKBHD, which is one of the few people who has gotten a Galaxy Fold for review had tweeted a picture of a damaged screen. He says that he tried to peel it off thinking that it was just a regular screen protector and the screen suddenly went crazy and it blacked out. Looks like this is a crucial layer for the Infinity Flex Display.
Interestingly, another person that replied to MKBHD said that there was actually a warning on the packaging of the Galaxy Fold. It says “ATTENTION: The main screen includes a special protective layer. Peeling off the protective layer or using any adhesives on the main screen, such as screen protectors or stickers, may cause damage.”
MKBHD had replied that his unit didn’t come with a warning label and perhaps Samsung had only included that on a different batch of Galaxy Fold units. From the message, it also implies that you can’t add anything extra to the screen, so this means you have to use the Galaxy Fold without a screen protector or tempered glass on the internal 7.3″ AMOLED screen.
