TM showcases 5Gbps connectivity via 5G at Putrajaya

The 5G Malaysia showcase is launching tomorrow and it is an opportunity for telcos to show the potential of 5G for consumers, businesses and industries. TM is also participating at the event and they have a working 5G base station that can deliver blazing gigabit speeds.

TM’s 5G base station is placed in the Perbadanan Putrajaya building and it is claimed to be getting a solid thoughput speed of over 5Gbps. It is a NSA (Non-standalone) unit that operates on a 28GHz mmWave band.

TM’s Acting CEO, Imri Mokhtar, said “As an integrated telco and the enabler of Malaysia’s digital aspirations, TM is certainly well-positioned towards bringing 5G to the nation.” He added that TM has a long and proven track record in nation-building as well as the right expertise and experience needed to catapult Malaysia into a digital nation.

The CEO also said the event is the perfect avenue for TM to showcase their capability and readiness in the deployment of future 5G network and applications in Malaysia. He also emphasised that TM is 5G ready in every aspect and they are set to deliver solutions that make 5G possible for the home, business and beyond.

TM is also showing a couple of 5G use cases and this include Smart Home and Smart Commuting. For industries, they have also showcased a Smart Helmet that’s developed by TM’s R&D subsidiary.

It’s a safety helmet that comes with an array of sensors and a video camera which allows live and wireless monitoring as well as accident detection and impact assessment. It can also used for violation detection, remote coaching and emergency observation which can be used to perform analysis to create a safer worksite.

The Smart Helmet is ready to be deployed for various industries such as Oil & Gas, Construction, Manufacturing and many more.

The 5G Malaysia showcase will be open to the public on 20-21 April 2019. It’s located at Perbadanan Putrajaya, which is opposite the Palace of Justice.
