Oppo confirms a higher-spec Reno smartphone with 10X zoom

In less than a week’s time, OPPO will unveil its new Reno smartphone lineup and the Chinese smartphone maker has just dropped its biggest hint yet for the new device. Yesterday we saw high-resolution renders of a Reno smartphone which features an all-screen display and a dual-camera setup. Turns out, there will be a higher-spec variant which comes with three cameras along with 10X zoom.

Oppo has just released their Reno microsite which challenges you to find three of its cameras on a high-resolution image. You have to use the scroll-wheel of your mouse to zoom in closer. If you managed to find all 3 cameras within 90 seconds, you’ll see a render of a smartphone that has a triple-camera setup. This matches the Oppo 10X zoom concept device which we saw at #MWC19.

This basically confirms that the Reno will use Oppo’s new periscope camera setup. It has a 48MP main shooter and also an ultra-wide-angle lens. The square lens at the bottom is a periscope system which is similar to the Huawei P30 Pro. Both offers 5X optical zoom and it is capable of pushing 10X lossless zoom.

Ishan Agarwal on Twitter claims to have key details of the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom model. He shared that it has an OLED display with a 93.1% screen-to-body ratio, a Snapdragon 855 processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. This looks like a smartphone that could succeed the Oppo Find X.

With a 48MP main camera and 10X hybrid zoom, the OPPO Reno 10X zoom could be a viable contender against the Huawei P30 Pro in the zooming department. At the moment, the P30 Pro is the highest rated smartphone on DxOMark. It is clear that the Huawei has been maximising its partnership with Leica while boosting its AI capabilities to bring its photography game to the next level. It would be interesting to see if Oppo can close the gap with its new Reno series.

Since the front is going to be all-screen, the Reno is expected to come with a pop-up mechanism for its selfie camera. Below is a purported video of the pop-up selfie camera in action:

Apart from the Reno 10X zoom edition, a standard version is expected to be released as well. The more affordable model runs on a lower Snapdragon 710 processor and it has two rear cameras instead of three. The standard model has already passed our SIRIM certification with the model number CPH1917.
