Xiaomi announces the Redmi Note 7 Pro with a more powerful Snapdragon 675 processor

The Redmi Note 7 is finally available outside of China as the new sub-brand under Xiaomi has just launched the device in India. Unlike the Chinese version, the mid-range device comes in two versions – the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Redmi Note 7 Pro

The Redmi Note 7 Pro comes with a 6.3″ Full HD+ display that has a small notch. Underneath its glossy aurora glass-like panel is a more powerful 11nm Snapdragon 675 processor that uses a flagship-class Kryo 460 CPU cores. According to Xiaomi, the Redmi Note 7 Pro with its Snapdragon 675 processor is more powerful than a Snapdragon 710 equipped smartphone. In their comparison, the Redmi Note 7 Pro had clocked a high AnTuTu score of more than 180,000.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro comes in two RAM and storage variants – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage or 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. There’s also the option to expand storage via microSD card.

For taking pictures, it gets a 48MP f1/.79 main camera that uses Sony’s IMX586 sensor and it is accompanied by a 5MP secondary shooter for depth of field effects. For clearer shots and better low light performance, the main camera can combine 4 nearby pixels to create a high-detail 12MP image.

Over at the front, the Redmi Note 7 Pro gets a 13MP selfie camera which supports Xiaomi’s AI portrait selfie. The device also supports Face Unlock as well.

Powering the device is a large 4,000mAh battery and this time it comes with a USB-C port. The device also supports Quick Charge 4.0 charging but a standard 10W charger is included in the box. Fortunately, the Redmi Note 7 still retains a 3.5mm headphone jack and Xiaomi has also added a P2i nano-coating for better resistance against accidental splashes.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro is priced at 13,999INR (about RM804) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model and 16,999INR (about RM967) for the top of the line 6GB RAM + 128GB storage option.

Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 7 (non-pro) is the more affordable alternative which is somewhat similar to China’s version. It still gets a 6.3″ Full HD+ display but it runs on a capable Snapdragon 660 processor. The device also comes in two options, with a base 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model and a higher 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option.

Since this is the more affordable model, the camera for the Redmi Note 7 for India gets a downgraded 12MP + 2MP dual camera combo, while the front still comes with a 13MP selfie shooter. The device still gets a 4,000mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 4.0 charging via USB-C.

The Redmi Note 7 in India is priced at 9,999 INR (about RM574) for the base 3GB RAM + 32GB variant, while the higher 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model is going for 11,999 INR (about RM689).

The Redmi Note 7 is expected to come to Malaysia in March and the device has already passed our SIRIM certification. According to retailer DirectD which operates a Mi Store in 1 Utama, the Malaysian unit will come with 18-months warranty.

We still don’t know which version we are getting as the hardware specs might be different from the one that’s offered in India. We hope that we are getting the Snapdragon 675 version and this could possibly be the best value for money smartphone for less than RM1,000.
