The Mi 9 is Xiaomi’s first flagship to feature a triple-camera setup. In the past year, Xiaomi has shown progress in the photography department and with the Mi MIX 3, it managed to perform just as good as the Galaxy Note9 according to camera benchmark site, DxOMark.
With the latest Mi 9, Xiaomi is taking a step further as it is currently rated the third highest smartphone on DxOMark Mobile’s ranking.
With a score of 107, the Xiaomi Mi 9 had performed better than the iPhone XS Max (105) and the Galaxy Note9 (103). It only loses out to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro (109) and P20 Pro (109) that are also equipped with a triple-camera setup.
Similar to the latest Huawei and Samsung flagships, the Mi 9 offers both telephoto and ultra-wide-angle lens. It has a main 48MP f/1.75 camera with Sony IMX 586 1/2.0″ sensor that outputs images at 12MP. The device also has a secondary 12MP f/2.2 2x telephoto unit and a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera.
According to DxOMark’s evaluation, the Mi 9 had scored 112 for the photo category. Meanwhile, for videos, the device achieved 99 points, which is the highest they have given so far in their labs. They mentioned that this is partly due to the fact that the Mi 9 is configured to shoot in 4K resolution by default.
It is worth pointing out that the ultra-wide-angle camera does not affect the score as it isn’t a defined category in their current test format. The 20MP selfie camera for the Mi 9 isn’t rated yet.
