Samsung’s affordable Galaxy M series is coming to Malaysia

The Galaxy M series is Samsung’s new bang for the buck lineup that offers compelling mid-range hardware, a larger screen and a huge 5,000mAh battery. It was introduced to compete against sub-RM1,000 contenders from Xiaomi, Honor and even ASUS.

The Galaxy M was first announced in India late last month and now it appears that the mid-range device is coming to Malaysia very soon.

The Samsung Galaxy M20 with the model number SM-M205 was recently spotted on SIRIM’s database alongside the Galaxy S10+. This is an indication that Samsung Malaysia will be offering the device locally. From the listing, the Galaxy M20 for Malaysia will support dual-SIM but unfortunately, like the ZenFone Max Pro M2, it doesn’t support 802.11ac 5GHz WiFi.

To recap, the Galaxy M20 comes with a 6.3″ Full HD+ Infinity-V display and it is powered by a 14nm Exynos 7904 Octa-Core processor. It comes with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage which is expandable via microSD card.

For imaging, it gets a 13MP f/1.9 main camera with a 5MP ultra-wide-angle shooter, while the front gets an 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera. Powering the M20 is a huge 5,000mAh battery and it supports 15W fast charging via USB-C. According to Samsung, a quick 10-minute charge can provide up to 3 hours of video or 11 hours of music playback.

In India, the M20 is priced at 10,990 INR (about RM629) for 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 12,990 INR (about RM745) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version. A cheaper Galaxy M10 was also announced as well and it also appears that Samsung is releasing a higher spec Galaxy M30 model that comes with a triple-camera setup.
