Apple rolls out iOS 12.1.4 update. Fixes Group FaceTime privacy bug

Apple has started to roll out its latest iOS 12.1.4 update which solves the Group FaceTime privacy issue. It’s now available to all iPhone and iPad users worldwide including Malaysia.

The update is about 335MB is size and you’ll have to connect to a WiFi connection to download. If you haven’t received any notification, you can download iOS 12.1.4 by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

Over a week ago, it was discovered that 3rd party callers could potentially eavesdrop via FaceTime if they initiate a Group FaceTime without having you to accept the call. Apple was quick to disable the Group FaceTime issue within hours after it was widely publicised.

The bug was discovered by 14-year-old Grant Thompson from Arizona and his name was credited on the security page together with Daven Morris from Texas as shown above. It was also reported that Apple will be compensating Thompson under their bugs bounty program along with additional unspecified gifts to his education.

Apart from Group FaceTime, the new iOS update also addresses other bugs which affect Live Photo in FaceTime and IOKit. You can read the full security update details here.
