59 new emojis approved for 2019 including mechanical appendages, orangutans and options that promote inclusivity

The final emoji list for 2019 has just been approved by the Unicode Consortium. It includes 59 completely new emojis as well as new variations of existing ones. In total, 230 new emojis will be available for you to use this year.

The 59 new emojis include a person in a wheelchair, mechanical arm and leg, a deaf person, people holding hands, people kneeling, an orangutan and a drop of blood. Interestingly, a white heart emoji was one for the most requested among emoji users, those users will be happy to know that it has also been included in the new emoji set.

While emojis are simple icons, they represent a whole lot more for people who use them. The new icon represents a wider spectrum of people to promote more inclusivity including people with various disabilities (proposed by Apple last year), a gender inclusive couple, as well emojis which permit a mix of skin tones for people holding hands.

The new emoji typically start showing up on mobile phones in September/October — some platforms may release them earlier.
